AP government warns striking junior doctors of stringent action

July 30, 2013 01:39 pm | Updated July 23, 2016 10:56 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

Minister for Medical Education Kondru Murali Mohan Rao here on Monday warned the striking junior doctors in Hyderabad and other places that the government would take stringent action if they do not report for duty and resume attending on patients.

Speaking to the reporters here on Monday after discussions with Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, he said it was ghastly that the junior doctors had made it a habit to serve strike notice every year on a list of demands.

Their emoluments were enhanced and some other assurances were implemented following a similar strike last year.

Now, they have come up with a fresh list of demands, including regularisation of rural service.

The Minister alleged that two to three leaders among the junior doctors were misleading them, adding that they might regret later if they continued the strike as the government would initiate action against them. Although Essential Services Maintenance Act was in force, the government was not invoking it for the time being.

He appealed to the junior doctors to call off the strike and hold talks instead with designated officials over their problems.
