The Congress party is scared of the Opposition parties and has been putting off the Municipal and Panchayat elections, alleged YSR Congress honorary president Y.S. Vijayamma.

By putting off the elections to local bodies, she opined that the Congress was going against the Constitution, which had provided greater power to these bodies.

She addressed party workers and leaders from West Godavari and Krishna districts as a preparatory meet to prepare for the upcoming local body elections in Vijayawada on Saturday and wanted the party workers to prove themselves. Continuing her tirade against Telugu Desam Party president N. Chandrababu Naidu, she called him a betrayer and backstabber at the regional meeting. Addressing a packed house at the Tankasala Kalyanamandapam here, Ms. Vijayamma said that Mr. Naidu had only focussed on Hyderabad and development of IT sector during his nine-year rule. “He had completely ignored agriculture. “Moreover, what can you expect from a leader who has backstabbed his own relatives to grab power?” she said.

Taking a dig at the Congress party, she said that it had run out of ideas and was borrowing them from those promoted by YSR. “The Bangaru Thalli project was the brainchild of YSR and the present Chief Minister has only changed the name to make it go under his banner,” she added. “The Congress has stooped to a level where it is now targeting my religion and the personal life of my daughter, Sharmila,” she alleged. She urged the YSRC leaders to bury their internal disputes and work for the party. “Jagan believes in teamwork and you have to reach every person in the villages and understand their problems,” she said quoting her son. The party will allocate 50 per cent of the seats to women in the local body elections, she said. Lashing out at the CBI, Ms. Vijayamma said, “The investigating agency is collaborating with the Congress and TDP to harass Jagan. He is accused No. 52 and the No.1 to No.16 are all Congress politicians or bureaucrats, who are out on bail.” Senior party leaders Mysoora Reddy, Ambati Rambabu, Jaleel Khan, S. Udaya Bhanu, V. Radha and P. Gowtham Reddy also spoke.
