A.P. DGP examined by CBI in Delhi

September 26, 2013 02:23 am | Updated November 16, 2021 09:09 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

The Central Bureau of Investigation here on Wednesday examined V. Dinesh Reddy, the Andhra Pradesh Director-General of Police who is facing serious allegations of disproportionate assets.

Confirming that Mr. Reddy had been summoned, CBI Director Ranjit Sinha told The Hindu that the Andhra Pradesh DGP came to the capital and was examined by a CBI team. “We are proceeding in the matter in line with the Supreme Court directive,” Mr. Sinha said. Mr. Reddy had been asked to bring along certain documents for scrutiny by CBI officials who interacted with him. He returned to Hyderabad in the evening.

The move comes a week after the agency registered a preliminary enquiry into the allegations against Mr. Reddy pursuant to a Supreme Court order directing the CBI to file a status report in the matter in four months.

However, in a telephonic conversation, Mr. Reddy denied that he was summoned or examined by the CBI. “It is incorrect…I am in Hyderabad,” he added.

The senior Andhra Pradesh cadre IPS officer came under CBI scanner after a Bench of Justices B.S. Chauhan and S.A. Bobde instructed the agency to probe the allegations of disproportionate assets against him.
