Leader of the Opposition in Legislative Council, Ummareddy Venkateswarlu said the Centre did not grant Special Category Status (SCS) to the State because there was no pressure from the Telugu Desam government .

Assembly resolutions

Addressing the media at the YSRCP office here on Friday, Mr. Venkateswarlu said the Centre did not grant the SCS even though his party president Y.S.Jagan Mohan Reddy had given representations to the President, the Prime Minister and other important persons.

After sending two resolutions approved unanimously in the Legislative Assembly asking the Centre to grant the SCS, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu reversed his stand and said that the special package given in place of the SCS was better, Mr. Venkateswarlu said.

The resolutions approved unanimously by the Assembly in spirit had the backing of all the people in the State, but Mr. Naidu cast aspersions on the usefulness of the SCS by raising doubts on it.
