Telangana issue again rocked the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council today with members from the region, across parties, raising slogans demanding that a bill be tabled in Parliament for the formation of separate state.
The House was adjourned for the day without transacting any business over the demand amid noisy scenes.
Council Chairman A Chakrapani adjourned the House for 15 minutes initially as Congress, TDP and other members from Telangana sought introduction of a bill on separate state.
Soon after the House re-assembled, Telangana Congress members held placards and raised slogans in support of their demand. The Congress MLCs had announced yesterday that they will stay away from the proceedings during the ongoing Budget session but came to the House today only to express their protest.
The TDP MLCs joined their Congress colleagues and raised slogans of ‘Jai Telangana’ As the MLCs continued to raise slogans despite appeals to maintain order, the Council Chairman adjourned the House for 30 minutes.
The din continued after the House re-assembled and the Chairman postponed all the questions, scheduled to be taken up today, and adjourned the House for the day.
Talking to reporters later, Congress MLCs said they will decide their future course of action about attending the House on March 3 when it meets again.
State ministers and Congress MLAs are planning to go to Delhi to meet top party leaders to mount pressure on the Telangana issue and the MLCs would also decide their strategy accordingly, S Mohan Reddy said.
