District Collector A. Dinakarbabu said that water rationing may be imminent in the months of March and April considering the current state of water resources in the district.
He said the district administration was holding discussions with officials of HMWS&SB in this regard.
Speaking to reporters along with Joint Collector A. Sharath here on Tuesday, Mr Dinakarbaub said that farmers were told to go for dry crops in the Rabi season as sufficient water was not available.
He said farmers were able to come out successfully during the Kharif season with crops such as paddy, maize, cotton and sugar cane.
Describing 2012 as a mixed bag of results, the Collector said that the construction of individual sanitary toilets (ISL) under the Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan programme had been progressing well.
Official apathy
Admitting that there were some lapses in implementing the Mata Sishu Samrakshna Scheme as officials at the field level were not visiting villages in remote areas, he said that efforts were on to address the problems.
Matrudevo Bhava, which was successfully implemented in the Dubbak Assembly constituency, will be extending to all areas in the district.
Referring to DRDA programmes, Mr. Dinakarbabu said that there was a need to bring some groups under total financial inclusion (TFI).
The Collector said that though employment was being provided for youth under the Rajiv Yuva Kiranalu, many candidates were not showing interest to take up jobs.
He added that there was a need to counsel them.
The administration is planning to introduce a system whereby each officer will adopt a school.
He will visit the school thrice in a week and interact with students and build confidence among them.
“This will be useful for the students to face the examinations with a confidence instead of fear psychosis,” the Collector said.
