Members of various civil society, students and political organisations took part in a non-political meeting held at VRC grounds here on Sunday to express their views against the bifurcation and carry forward the message of the Samaikyandhra agitation.
The speakers stressed the need for strengthening the agitation for united Andhra Pradesh as the Central government seemed adamant in going ahead with its hasty decision on the issue of division.
The Samaikyandhra leaders wanted to spread the movement across the State and even involve the farmers and agricultural workers actively in the stir.
Addressing the gathering on the occasion, Nellore Rural MLA Anam Vivekananda Reddy said that it would not be possible to divide the State easily as there were many hurdles in the process. He asserted that the people’s representatives would do everything possible to oppose any legislation in favour of the separate statehood.
Mr. Vivekananda Reddy said that the bifurcation of the State would create many new problems for which the people of both the regions were not prepared and real progress would only be possible in a united State.
Nellore Urban MLA M. Sridhar Krishna Reddy pointed out that the State capital came to be a focal point for all-round growth and development in the past several decades and now it was unfair to separate the capital from the people of Seemandhra region.
The speakers expressed concern over the attacks on Seemandhra advocates on the High Court premises on Saturday. They asserted that everyone living in the State has a right to visit the capital city and take part in the meetings there.
