A.P. Bar Council election on June 29

The stage is set for the election to the 25-member Bar Council of Andhra Pradesh (BCAP) on June 29.

In all, 107 candidates from 143 Bar Associations are contesting for the membership of the coveted regulatory body of advocates.

The members will be chosen by 27,000 advocates, who will give their preferential voting from 10.30 a.m. to 5 p.m. under the watchful eyes of the representatives of the Bar Council of India, the three-member special committee that is overseeing the affairs of the combined Bar Council for Andhra Pradesh (A.P.) and Telangana and the local judicial officers. The Telangana Bar Council will be elected by 25,000 advocates, representing 99 Bar Associations.

The advocates practising at the Hyderabad High Court will cast their vote at the A.P. High Court Advocates’ Association on the High Court premises and at the Bar Association at the A.P. Administrative Tribunal at Purana Haveli in Hyderabad. Advocates in New Delhi and on the rolls of the existing Bar Council would cast their vote at the Supreme Court Bar Association and those in A.P. at the respective Bar Associations where the courts are located.

Counting on July 11

All India Lawyers’ Union State secretary N. Srinivasa Rao told The Hindu that the counting of votes would begin at 10.30 a.m. at the Hyderabad High Court on July 11.

Twenty-eight candidates are from Visakhapatnam and 12 from Vijayawada.
