Senior Congress leader M. Veerappa Moily on Friday said the Antony committee, set up by the party to go into the grievances of Seemandhra leaders vis-à-vis creation of Telangana, would have a few more sittings before finalising its report to the party high command/UPA-II government.

He made it clear that the committee, in which he too is a member, was not set up to buy time in the decision to create Telangana.

Talking to The Hindu from Bangalore over phone, Mr. Moily, who was party general secretary in charge of A.P. earlier, said the Committee would ensure that the grievances of the leaders/people of various regions of the State were addressed. “We have not fixed any time-limit, but we want to finish off the proceedings as soon as possible,” he said to a question.

The Committee’s next meeting would be held on August 19 in Delhi and so far no plan had been finalised for visiting Hyderabad. The Justice B.N. Srikrishna committee, appointed by the government on the Telangana issue, had toured A.P. extensively and prepared the report concerning various subjects, he pointed out.

The other members of the committee are Digvijay Singh and Ahmed Patel.
