Every spell of rain makes us realise, yet again, that there is really no such thing as bad weather. The sunshine is delicious, rain is refreshing, wind braces us up and snow is exhilarating. After a hot spell, this region is witnessing intermittent drizzles. Vijayawada is awash with a fresh coat of colours. This is the time when nature exudes rare warmth with leaves appearing greener and flowers in their full bloom turning more fragrant. The Hindu photographer V. Raju captures some raindrops dripping down from leaves, which seem like glistening pearls dropping to the moist earth.
Prakasam Barrage the lifeline for thousand of hectares of paddy and other cash crops in Coastal Andhra Pradesh, was built between 1954 and 57 on Krishna River. The search for chronicling its history yielded no results for the engineers in service. Incidentally, a Masula-based professor K.S. Krishna Prasad, grandson of an Executive Engineer Kattoji Satyachari who had worked on the barrage construction works between 1953 and 1955, found an album of rare pictures of Prakasam Barrage works. The Hindu correspondent T. Appala Naidu gathers those rare pictures.
