A facebook post that Cyclone Hudhud’s unparalleled destruction in Andhra Pradesh was nature’s way of punishing those who did not vote for YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) led to the arrest of a law student hailing from Guntur. The AP CID registered a case against him under provisions of IT Act and IPC.

The student, Chaganti Rahul Reddy of Arundalpet in Guntur district, was later released on bail. The CID had registered a case on October 15 under sections 66-A (b) of IT Act and 153 of the IPC against him following a complaint. “Mr. Reddy was arrested as he tried to cause disaffection among people by his facebook posts”, AP CID Additional DGP, Dwarakal Tirumala Rao told The Hindu. Mr. Rao said all procedures were followed in the arrest of Mr Reddy, an activist of YSRCP.

In his now controversial facebook post, Reddy said: “I love u hudhoodh…” and added that nature was taking revenge against the betrayers [those who did not vote for Ms Vijayamma, wife of late YS Rajasekhar Reddy in Visakhapatnam Lok Sabha constituency].
