Any package or a development council for Telangana will not be acceptable, says Kishan Reddy

State BJP president G. Kishan Reddy on Wednesday said that his party would intensify agitation for separate Telangana State if the Centre announced a package or a Rayala-Telangana State.

At a press conference here, he said the ruling Congress was again trying to deceive the people on Telangana. Whenever the movement was at a crucial stage or there was a crisis in the ruling party, the Congress tried to divert people’s attention on the demand for Telanagana State. He said the people were not ready to accept anything short of a separate State.

He said that any package for Telangana or a development council would not be acceptable.

He demanded the Congress to honour the promise made by Union Minister P. Chidambaram on December 9, 2009 and carve out the Telangana State comprising 10 districts in the region. The BJP was opposed to division of Rayalaseema for forming Rayala-Telangana.

Mr. Reddy wanted the Centre to announce a special package for development of the entire ‘Seemandhra’ region after bifurcating the State.

He warned the Centre of severe consequences if it took any decision against the wishes of the people.

He said that a convention of BJP leaders from Telangana would be held here on Thursday to discuss the future programme.

He said Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi would address a ‘Yuva Sammelan’ at LB Nagar Stadium in the city on July 27 and a ‘Rythu Sadassu’ at Rajahmundry in August.

The BJP leader announced that the party leaders and activists would stage dharnas in front of excise and collectors’ offices to protest against the new excise policy.
