Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister K Rosaiah on Sunday said the ‘Handri Niva Sujala Sravanti’ and other irrigation projects in the drought—prone Anantapur district would be completed by August this year.
“We have already directed the officials to complete the ’Handri Niva Sujala Sravanti’ reservoir by August, 2010.
Similarly, the government is determined to complete the Chagallu and Pendekallu reservoirs by August itself,” he said.
Mr. Rosaiah was speaking after inaugurating development programmes in the district.
He hoped that drinking and irrigation water woes of Anantapur district would come to an end in the near future.
Speaking earlier, Agriculture Minister N. Raghuveera Reddy, who hails from Anantapur district, urged the Chief Minister to take steps for the early completion of the irrigation projects in the parched lands of Anantapur district.
The Handri Niva Sujala Sravanti project aims at irrigating six lakh acres and provide drinking water facility to over 30 lakh people.
The Chief Minister is on a two-day visit to the Anantapur district.
