Ambedkar statue on Assembly premises unveiled

TDP MLA requests Speaker and CM to replace the statue as it does not resemble Dr. Ambedkar

A bronze statue of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar was formally installed on the Assembly premises here on Monday.

Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan unveiled the statue in the presence of Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, Council Chairman A. Chakrapani, Assembly Speaker Nadendla Manohar, Deputy Speaker Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, Leader of Opposition N. Chandrababu Naidu, Ministers and others, amid sloganeering by MLAs hailing the Father of Constitution.

The 14-feet bronze statue was installed adjacent to the life-size bronze statue of Mahatma Gandhi.

The Speaker and Deputy Speaker said they were happy that the statue was installed during their tenure.

However, TDP MLA M. Narasimhulu requested the Speaker and the Chief Minister to replace the statue as it did not resemble Dr. Ambedkar.
