Telugu Desam Party candidate Ambati Srihari Prasad and son of former Avanigadda MLA Ambati Brahmanaiah registered a thumping victory against his nearest rival in the Avanigadda by-election by a whopping majority of 61,644.

Out of the total votes of 92,309 polled Mr. Srihari Prasad, received as many as 75,282 votes. Two independent candidates B.R. Subrahmanyam and Sykam Rajasekhar received 3,389 and 13,638 votes respectively.

Returning Officer and VGTMUDA Secretary G. Ravi handed over the certificate of election to Mr. Srihari Prasad after the results of the 21-rounds were announced on Saturday.

Speaking to newsmen, Mr. Hari Prasad said that he will cherish the victory and attributed it to the selfless services of his father, Ambati Bhrahmanaiah. “Measures will be taken on a war footing to address the problems in the constituency which was noticed during our election campaign,” added Mr. Hari Prasad.

The TDP supporters, who waited outside the Government Degree College premises, celebrated the success. Mr. G. Ravi opened the strong room in the presence of Election Observer Ajay Yadav and Krishna District Collector Buddha Prakash M Jyothi at the Government Degree College, Avanigadda at 7.50 a.m.

TDP candidate Ambati Sri Hari Prasad was present when the officials opened the strong room and the other two independent contestants - Ravu Subrahmanyam and Sykam Rajasekhar – in the fray were absent and did not appear for the counting of votes. The counting process started with counting of postal ballots, amid tight security. Krishna District Superintendent of Police J. Prabhakara Rao monitored the security on the counting centre premises. However, there were no invalid votes found in the first three rounds.
