Amaravathi muhurtam triggers debate

May 26, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 06:04 am IST - GUNTUR:

As the debate rages over the choice of muhurtuam , for the bhoomi puja , for the new captital Amaravathi, an astrologer G.V.L.N Charyulu, who is popular host of the programme TV show Bhavishya Vani , defended the decision taken by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.

Mr. Naidu would perform the bhoomi puja at Mandadam village in Thullur mandal on June 6 at 8.49 am.

The TDP led government has accorded top priority to ‘vastu’ right from identifying the location of capital to fixing ‘muhurtam’, for swearing in ceremony.

Mr. Charyulu said the decision taken by the Chief Minister was right and he has every right to take a decision.

“As far as the muhurtam is considered, I have no problem with it. I also object to certain comments made by some astrologers that the time fixed was not good,” Mr. Charyulu said.

It may be noted that Srinivasa Ghargeya, once a TDP court astrologer, said ‘Jyesta masam’ would be inauspicious for performing bhoomi puja . “I have fixed muhurtam , for all major events in the last one year and I am not happy with the time fixed for the bhoomi puja,” he said.
