Allagadda comes to a standstill

Tearful farewell to Sobha Nagireddy. A vast sea of humanity took part in the funeral held in the open ground on the outskirts of the town at Chukkapalli Cross on Kadapa highway.

Thousands of mourners bade tearful farewell to YSR Congress MLA Sobha Nagireddy at her native Allagadda town in Kurnool district on Friday. The mortal remains of Mrs. Sobha Nagireddy, who died in a ghastly road accident on Thursday, was kept in the open area at her residence for public view.

A vast sea of humanity took part in the funeral held in the open ground on the outskirts of the town at Chukkapalli Cross on Kadapa highway.

Jagat Vikhyata Reddy, son of Sobha Nagireddy, lit the pyre while his father, sisters and other close relations were around him. Her brother S.V. Mohan Reddy, father S.V. Subba Reddy and other relations from maternal side also attended the funeral.

Thousands of men and women gathered at the residence of the Nagireddy family since morning to pay last respects to their leader. As the volunteers found it difficult to control the crowd, the mortal remains were shifted and mounted on a tractor trolley for better view and to arrange an orderly queue.

Among those who paid the paid last respects to the leader include YSR Congress president Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy, his mother Vijayamma, wife Bharathi and sister Sharmila. The family of Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy spent considerable time with the bereaved family members consoling the daughters and son of Sobha Nagireddy.

Mr. Bhuma Nagireddy who is contesting from Nandyal assembly was seen growing emotional whenever a close relation or political supporter approached him. The sea of humanity remained at the residence and occupied the street right from the morning until the start of funeral procession around 4.30 pm.

Leaders cutting across the party lines visited the place and conveyed condolences to the bereaved family. Kotla Sujathamma, Challa Ramakrishna Reddy, Katasani Rambhupal Reddy, Katasani Ramireddy, T.G. Venkatesh, Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy and Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy were among those who paid the tributes.
