All set for municipal elections today

The stage is set for elections to the 156 urban local bodies in the State on Sunday.

Addressing a media conference here on Saturday, State Election Commissioner P. Ramakanth Reddy said that polling would be held from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. in 146 municipalities (3,990 wards) and 10 municipal corporations (513 wards). The election to Banaganapallinagar panchayat in Kurnool has been suspended following the court direction, he said.

Of the 6,631 polling stations in the municipalities and 2,507 polling stations in the municipal corporations, 3,630 polling stations were categorised as sensitive and 3,026 as hyper-sensitive.

Arrangements were made for web casting in 3,002 polling stations, videography in 4,919 polling stations while micro observers would be deployed in 1,656 stations, he said. Mr. Reddy said that a total of 67.87 lakh voters in municipalities and 27.48 lakh voters in municipal corporations would exercise their franchise on Sunday.
