All is well, says Kodela

July 12, 2014 12:38 am | Updated 12:38 am IST - HYDERABAD:

Assembly Speaker Kodela Sivaprasada Rao said on Friday he did not anticipate any clash or problems in the conduct of the budget sessions of the Assemblies of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana “though there might be some overlapping as both States were given the same deadline of September-end”.

Addressing a media conference here to announce an orientation programme for legislators, he said there could be minor problems and these could be sorted out through a dialogue. “I do not want to make an issue of everything. I want to see both States progress and develop like twins”.

Already there was an informal meeting with his Telangana counterpart, S. Madhusudhana Chary on effective utilisation of available space in the Assembly, he said. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu too has written a letter to Telangana Chief Minister on EAMCET counselling, he said emphasising that problems could be sorted out amicably sitting across the table. He denied that the Telangana government was not cooperating and passing over files belonging to AP. To a question, Dr. Rao said no decision was taken on constituting standing committees, given the limited infrastructure on the Assembly premises.

Orientation programme

Dr. Rao said the two-day orientation programme on July 18 and 19 was mainly for the benefit of 98 first time MLAs from both Telugu Desam and YSRC though other MLAs and MLCs were being invited.

The programme was aimed at making the new comers aware of the Assembly procedures and practices and how they could utilise the opportunity to bring to the notice of the government the problems of people in their constituencies.

The inaugural session of the programme will be attended by Mr. Chandrababu Naidu and Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu. Former Secretary General of Parliament Subhash Kashyap and former Comptroller and Auditor General Vinod Rai will address the legislators on the first day.

The legislators will have the privilege of listening to Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan, Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and former vice chairperson of Rajya Sabha Najma Heptullah on the second day of the programme.
