Nirmal police on Tuesday filed a petition in the court of the Judicial First Class Magistrate (JFCM) K. Ajesh Kumar for calling the tapes of debates in A.P. Legislative Assembly in which Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi had participated.
The legislator’s debates in Urdu language, as well as samples of his voice collected in the court in the presence of a couple of experts from the AP Forensic Science Laboratory (APFSL) during the day would be used to match the voice in CDs of the alleged Nirmal hate speech.
Meanwhile, the JFCM extended the judicial remand of Mr. Owaisi by another 14 days up to February 19. His earlier remand period expired on Tuesday.
Amid tight security, the MLA was brought to the JFCM court from the district jail, Adilabad in the morning to give his voice sample. The proceedings were video taped under the supervision of the APFSL experts.
“Mr. Owaisi displayed physical weakness while reading from the Urdu newspaper and while answering questions.
His voice was very feeble all through the exercise and he walked very slowly towards his vehicle after emerging from the court hall,” the legislator’s advocates V. Balraj, Md. Akbar Hussain and Syed Alimuddin told reporters outside the court premises. The entire proceeding lasted for about 90 minutes, after which he was sent back to Adilabad jail.
The judge also extended the remand of the second accused in the Nirmal hate speech case, Azeem-bin-Yahiya, until February 19.
Mr. Akbaruddin got some relief in the other case relating to the manhandling of the then Medak Collector, A.K. Singhal in 2005 with the Seventh Additional and Sessions Judge T. Anand at Sangareddy granting him bail. He was directed to submit two sureties in addition to furnishing of Rs.10,000 as deposit.
