Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi was on Friday evening brought to the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) here for medical examinations after he complained of pain in the lower part of the abdomen.

The MLA seemed to be suffering from pain as he arrived at the hospital, though doctors attending on him said the tests, X-ray and ultrasound scan, were all part of a baseline study.

Mr. Akbaruddin was brought to the RIMS at 8.15 p.m. He was helped by policemen to climb the few steps of the main hospital building.

RIMS Director M. Shashidhar told The Hindu that other health parameters of the MLA established through tests were normal.

“As the x-ray and ultrasound scan cannot be done in jail, we have brought him to the hospital,” Dr. Ch. Suresh Chandra, hospital Superintendent, said.

The MLA was escorted back to the district jail at about 9.30 p.m. after the tests were conducted.

Voice samples

Meanwhile, Nirmal Judicial First Class Magistrate (JFCM) K. Ajesh Kumar on Friday ordered collection of voice samples of Owaisi on February 5 in the alleged Nirmal town hate speech case.

The exercise will be done in an ‘open’ court in the presence of an expert from Forensic Science Laboratory.Nirmal police had sought recording of the voice of the MLA to match it with the one in the video footage of the hate speech allegedly delivered by the MLA at Nirmal on December 22.

Owaisi had disowned the voice after seeing the video footage during questioning under police custody in Adilabad a few days back.

Meanwhile, the legislator met his family members, wife Shabana, son Nooruddin and daughter Fatima, in the District Jail, Adilabad, where he is an under trial prisoner in the alleged Nirmal town hate speech case.

The meeting, which lasted about 50 minutes came during the ‘mulaqat’ hours in the forenoon session.
