Allaying fears of small and marginal farmers of Bhogapuram where the government has proposed a Greenfield international airport Collector M.M. Naik said only 6,000 acres would be acquired, instead of 15,000 acres as proposed earlier.

The land was identified in four revenue panchayats. In a press release, he said people in 19 habitations falling under these four revenue panchayats will be rehabilitated. In addition to compensation of Rs. 8lakh to be paid for rehabilitation of the displaced families they would be paid value of the assets lost in land pooling/land acquisition.

Further, each family would be given 5cents of land and Rs. 1.28lakh for construction of house.

The decision has come in the wake of stiff resistance from farmers who said the entire Bhogapuram mandal would perish if 15,000 acres out of 28,000acres in the mandal were acquired for the airport.
