Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has directed officials to focus on strengthening the water storage at tanks across the State by taking steps like desiltation and improving the bunds to effectively store available water.

The Government has succeeded in interlinking Krishna-Godavari rivers through the Pattiseema lift irrigation scheme and 10,000 cusecs of water from the Godavari was being presently drawn on a daily basis through the project to meet the requirements of the Krishna delta.

Water for Rayalaseema

With the Krishna river water from Almatti and Narayanpur projects expected to reach the Srisailam project in a couple of days, the Government had drawn up plans to release water to Rayalaseema through the reservoir.

The Chief Minister held a teleconference on Neeru-Chettu and Neeru-Pragati schemes with senior officials and elected representatives from his residence here on Monday. He recalled that the Government could save standing crop worth Rs. 2,400 crore in 8.5 lakh acres last year by drawing water from the Godavari on a trial basis.

“The State created history by successfully interlinking two major rivers. Efforts should be made to ensure that farmers did not suffer from drought any more,” he said.
