Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Robin K. Dhowan presided over the debrief of the just-concluded annual Theatre-level Readiness and Operational Exercise (TROPEX-2015) at the Southern Naval Command here on Wednesday.

Chiefs of the three naval commands and senior operational commanders of the navy took part in the discussions, held to validate the operational doctrine and war-readiness of naval units. The top brass of the navy also discussed the road map of operations for the force, looking at ways to refine the “existing concepts of operations catering for improved maritime capabilities with new acquisitions and infrastructure.” The navy, in a media release, said the latest edition of TROPEX was “unique in scale and size with the participation of two aircraft carriers [ INS Vikramaditya and Vikrant ] and integration of various new platforms including MiG 29K fighters, P8-I Long Range Maritime Reconnaissance Aircraft, the nuclear submarine Chakra , indigenous stealth destroyer Kolkata , and anti-submarine warfare frigate Kamorta , besides the participation of 50 ships, submarines, and more than 70 aircraft from all the three commands as also assets of the Air Force and the Coast Guard.” “All the participating units were completely networked and the operations were facilitated by the robust and seamless communications network, including satellite communications under the Navy’s overall thrust on network-centric operations.”

The exercise, the navy said, reemphasised its readiness and capability to meet various mandated roles. Admiral Dhowan would interact with officers and men of the command, the training command of the navy, during his stay in Kochi, it said.
