ADE dies, six injured in mishap at RTTP

Assistant Divisional Engineer of the APGenco, Nagendra (40), died and an assistant engineer, apart from five contract workers hailing from Jharkand, sustained injuries on the Rayalaseema Thermal Power Plant premises at Kalamalla on Monday, when iron girders stacked without any support fell on them.

The mishap took place when the Gammon India company was undertaking the work of laying foundation for a cooling tower in the sixth unit of the RTPP. The injured have been identified as Pratheek, an assistant engineer of the Gammon India Ltd., and --Dharmendra, Sukumar, Jayaprakash, Ashok Kumar and Anil Kumar Yadav – all workers hailing from Jharkhand. They were rushed in a 108 ambulance service van to the government hospital at Proddatur.

The ADE’s body has been sent for post-mortem to Proddatur Government Hospital. RTPP Chief Engineer Kumar Babu inspected the mishap site. Nagendra, who was working in Siddhavatam, joined as the ADE in RTPP on promotion recently. He is survived by his wife Soujanya and son Meharun. Kalamalla police registered a case.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu expressed shock over the incident. He asked the APGenco officials to conduct an inquiry into the incident and submit a report. APGenco Chairman and Managing Director K. Vijayanand has been asked to probe the incident.
