A girl student allegedly splashed acid on a lecturer at Government Polytechnic College, Nallapadu in Guntur on Saturday. The lecturer, M. Venkata Ramana, who suffered serious burn injuries on his eyes, face and neck, was admitted to the Government General Hospital (GGH).

The student alleged that the lecturer had cheated her by making a false promise of marriage.

Police said that the woman came with a veil on her face, waited at the main gate and splashed concentrated sulphuric acid on Mr. Ramana as he came out during the lunch time. Locals and students immediately shifted the lecturer to the nearby GGH.

The woman also said that Mr. Ramana befriended her while he was working as a tutor in Narsaraopet. She later left for Visakhapatnam to pursue her post graduation. But meanwhile, the lecturer had married another woman in Guntur on August 15, 2014.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (South) K. Narasimha said that a criminal case would be booked against the woman who carried out the acid attack.
