Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy has said that an agreement will be signed with the Maharashtra government in New Delhi on May 5 on waters for the Pranahita-Chevella project.
The project will benefit Telangana by bringing 16 lakh acres under cultivation, including 5.19 lakh acres in Medak district, he said at the Prajapatham programme held at the native village of former Medak MP M. Baga Reddy on Thursday. The government was trying to get national project status for both Prahanita-Chevella and Polavaram projects so that 90 per cent funding would come from the Centre, he added.
“People who are creating hurdles in the implementation of Polavaram project do not know that it would benefit farmers in both Telangana and Rayalaseema,” he said and added that the two projects together would provide assured irrigation to about 1 crore acres.
Elections to local bodies, both panchayat and municipal, would be held in the next two to three months and women would get 50 per cent reservations in these elections, the Chief Minister promised.
Noting that the people of the district had returned Congress party candidates from eight of the 10 Assembly constituencies, he said the party aimed at winning all the 10 seats, including Siddipet, in the 2014 General Elections.
“They (TRS) think that Siddipet is theirs. We will work to win that seat,” he said.
The government had withdrawn the move to select VROs and VRAs through interviews after some people tried to sell the posts, the Chief Minister noted and said that his government was committed to welfare and transparency. He also inaugurated 10 Mee-Seva centres in the district.
The meeting was presided over by Major Industries Minister J. Geeta Reddy.
