Officials of Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) raided the check-post located on the Telangana-Andhra Pradesh border on Monday and seized some unaccounted cash. The check-post is being manned by the Commercial Taxes (CT) Department.

On information that the commercial taxes officials have been collecting excess amount and resorting to illegal collections from the vehicle owners, the ACB team, led by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) V. Gopalakrishna, raided the check-post and seized unaccounted cash of Rs. 21,000.

ACB Circle-Inspectors Srinivas and Venkateswarlu, who participated in the raid, verified the records and found that more than 20,000 vehicles pass through the point every day.

“Assistant Commercial Taxes Officer (ACTO) A. Ramesh, a senior assistant, a class IV employee and a night watchman were present at the check-post. The staff could not give proper reply on the seized amount,” the DSP said.

ACB would register a case, Mr. Gopalakrishna said.
