The ongoing ‘National Vedic Youth Festival – 2014’ at Sri Venkateswara Vedic University has all elements that define a perfect youth festival, with a few variations in its implementation.
Unlike the regular college fetes, the 5th 'Kshatra Samaroha' aims at fostering awareness among students about teachings in Vedas, conducting a horde of events testing their grasping power and competitive spirit.
As many as 200 students from various Sanskrit and Vedic varsities from across the country took part in three-day youth festival, which began on Wednesday.
Dressed in traditional attire, supplemented by vermilion and holy ash on their foreheads, the students took part in debate, elocution, essay writing, painting, quiz, dramatics and several others competitions basing on themes of mythology. Besides this, performance of yoga, veda/shloka antakshari would also be organised during the programme.
Speaking on the occasion, Karnataka Vedic University Vice-Chancellor Srinivasavarakhedi, a renowned Sanskrit scholar, said that Vedic education would regain its past glory and the students would emerge as 'torchbearers' for the nation.
Briefing on the motto of the varsity, Vedic University Vice-Chancellor K.E. Devanathan called upon students to uphold the name of the institution .
