What is yesteryear hero Narasimha Raju, known as Andhra Kamalhaasan, doing at Durga Ghat on Tuesday? Well! He was shooting for a Gemini television channel soap which is aired every night at 7.30. The artistes of the mythological soap – “Saptha Mathrika” were seen busy emoting their moods as per the script and a photographer slipped into the water to commence a clicking spree at the heroine (Sowjanya) taking a dip.

He also captured the moods of Narasimha Raju who is portraying the role as heroine’s father. "The script demanded picturisation of river and the ongoing Krishna Pushkarams came in handy for the director,” he pointed out.

Narasimha Raju rose to the heights of stardom with his movies Needaleni Adadi, Turpu Padamara, Kanyakumari, Idekkadi Nyayam, and Jaganmohini . After N. T. Rama Rao and Kanta Rao, he was considered as a popular folk hero.

Footwear, footwear everywhere

Imagine the plight of a person searching his or her pair of chappals amidst hundreds of footwear on a busy thoroughfare? Much to the surprise of many passers-by, a mound of chappals was seen at the foothill of Indrakeeladri and the owners had a torrid time searching their pair after taking a darshan of the almighty. Despite the provision of a free chappal stand provided by the temple authorities for the Krishna Pushkarams at Ratham Centre, many were seen leaving the footwear near Vijayaeswara Swamy Temple at the foothill of Indrakeeladri for quick entrance and exit. “The entire area is strewn with chappals and many, after a futile search, left the place barefooted,” says a shopkeeper.

Enjoying the breeze

For the first time in 2016, the river Krishna is chock-a-block with life. The enormity of the water body has made the hearts of locals and pilgrims filled with abundant happiness. After many months one can see the river full and plenty. The floating shafts, the speeding boats, majestic green waves, turbulent tides, squalling winds and wind-related water sports are all-new experience for the locals who are witnessing a carnival atmosphere after 12 long years. For the residents of One Town the breezy winds are giving them immense comfort especially at nights. “As we approach the ghats we are experiencing heavy and strong winds. In fact, the residents close to ghats are witnessing wonderful windy nights,” says a dweller of Brahmin Street.

‘Gandhi’ on

the move

For all those who find ways and means to skip their morning walk and stretching exercise, this octogenarian is a shining example and someone to be emulated. He is called Ramoji Gandhi and he is always seen walking, carrying the fluttering national flag on his shoulders with pride. With Gandhi cap on his scalp he is as fit as a fiddle and he is proud of Bharat Mata. ‘Vijayawada Gandhi’ was the cynosure of both pilgrims and security personnel near the Corporation office. Inspired by his love for the nation, a couple of Rapid Action Force officers took a selfie with the grand old man of Vijayawada.
