A massive public campaign is under way in this town, popularly known as ‘Andhra Paris’, to make it litter-free within the next six months. ‘Mana Tenali- It’s People’s Creation’ is the theme of the campaign led by MLA Alapati Rajendra Prasad. Students, working professionals, government departments and businessmen are part of the campaign.

Starting at day-break, Mr. Rajendra Prasad goes around the town and prodding residents and shop keepers to maintain hygiene. He personally distributes waste bins to them. Be it a few shreds of paper, a pile of scrap or pan-stained walls, nothing escapes the attention of the civic staff . The MLA himself gives a pep talk on clean practices at times. “The three-fold campaign involves a comprehensive survey of households, educating the public about good hygiene and massive sanitation campaign in all the 46 wards of the town. Our aim is to make the town the most liveable place,” Mr. Rajendra Prasad says.

With nearly 5,000 families expected to relocate to Tenali in the next six months, as most government offices will be shifted to Guntur-Vijayawada, the civic body is determined to give the town a facelift. “The town produces 70 metric tonnes of solid waste. We have been successful in implementing the two-bin garbage collection .

This campaign is aimed at inculcating the culture of cleanliness among residents,” Municipal Commisisoner Sakuntala said.
