Members of the YSR Congress party staged dharna at various places in the district on Thursday, protesting against the “foisting” of cases against the party president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy.
Party’s general secretary and State spokesperson Bhumana Karunakar Reddy staged a dharna at Bhavani Nagar junction in the city, condemning the slapping of cases “illegally” against Mr. Jagan. The party cadre raised slogans such as “ Idhemi rajyam, dopidi rajyam ”, flaying the government’s corrupt practices and its inability to digest criticism by the Opposition.
Addressing the public, Mr. Reddy said that the government was bent on framing Mr. Jagan on every possible count and the Krishna district incident was the latest in the series of attempts to muzzle the Opposition. He demanded that the government arrest those running Diwakar Travels and initiate a free and fair inquiry into the issue.
On Krishna Collector's charge, Mr. Karunakar Reddy insisted that the government employees were bound to provide every official document as demanded by the Opposition leader. He demanded that the fake cases be withdrawn forthwith.
Party leader and Nagari legislator R.K. Roja, who joined him in the agitation, reiterated her charge made on Wednesday that the series of incidents was an overt attempt to safeguard the party bigwigs behind the accident. She appealed to the government employees to question the political leaders who were trying to exert pressure on them to influence their functioning, while referring to a couple of attacks made on them by politicians of the ruling dispensation.
Chandragiri MLA Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy staged a demonstration in front of the Tirupati Rural Mandal Tahsildar's office, where he said the foisting of fake cases smacked of political vendetta. He criticised the TDP leaders of going aggressively against the Opposition party, instead of rectifying its mistakes.
Withdrawal of cases sought
Staff Reporter writes from Srikakulam:
YSR Congress State Executive General Secretary of Women's wing Varudu Kalyani on Thursday asked the government to conduct an inquiry into the bus accident in Krishna district.
She alleged that the State government was cornering Mr. Jagan by foisting “false” cases instead of taking action on Diwakar Travels which was supposed to be held responsible for the accident. She submitted a memorandum to the Srikakulam District Revenue Officer Natukula Satyanarayana seeking action on the travels management and transport officials who reportedly failed to ensure rules and regulations.
Earlier, the party organised a dharna at Srikakulam Tahsildhar's office seeking withdrawal of cases against Mr. Jagan.
