Water gushes out of borewell in Anantapur district

Fifth attempt of Srinivasachary yields results at Tungodu

In the otherwise bone-dry district of Anantapur which is usually held synonymous with dried up borewells and tank beds besides wilting crops, witnessed a miracle of sorts with water literally pouring out of a borewell which hasn’t even been fitted with a motor.

Mr. Srinivasachary of the Tungodu village of the Somandepalli mandal, close to the Penukonda town, was neck deep in debts after losing crop for the fourth consecutive year due to truant crops and ever failing attempts at drilling a borewell until Sunday.

As the fifth borewell to be drilled in a span of 1.5 years, Srinivasachary had already incurred a debt of more than ₹2.5 lakh on account of just drilling borewells. But the fifth attempt yielded water and in such quantum and pressure that he feels his days ofpoverty would soon be over.

Rare sight

“As the bore reached a depth of 570 feet, the water started gushing out. Soon the drilling was stopped and pipes inserted into the well. However, ever since, water hasn't stopped gushing out of it although I am yet to attempt fitting a motor pump,” said Mr. Srinivasachary.

Meanwhile, people from the surrounding villages have started visiting the place to witness the rare sight.
