VIJAYAWADA: Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has said that the State Government and Visakhapatnam Port Trust (VPT) have submitted proposals for 90 projects with an outlay of ₹1,30,763 crore under the Sagarmala project.

He has instructed the 33-member committee, which has just been constituted to take the projects in A.P. forward, to come up with port and cluster-wise action plans at the earliest.

“The Krishnapatnam port is going to play a pivotal role in the upcoming special employment zone there,” he says.

Addressing the committee’s maiden meeting at the Interim Government Complex at Velagapudi in Guntur district on Wednesday, Mr. Naidu said that the committee would be helping the government in harnessing the tremendous potential for economic development of the 974-km-long coastline by drawing a comprehensive plan of action encompassing the multiple clusters/nodes that straddle the coast and its vast hinterland.

Inland waterways

The action plans should incorporate inland waterways, in addition to the road and railway infrastructure.

The VPT would be serving as the nodal agency for the inland waterways project in the State, Mr. Naidu said.

In addition to 13 ports, two industrial corridors and five special economic zones were planned to be developed, the Chief Minister added.

Ministers P. Narayana, K. Atchannaidu, and Kollu Ravindra, Machilipatnam MP K. Narayana Rao, and Sagarmala Project Joint Secretary Ravindra Agarwal were present.
