VIJAYAWADA: The ongoing Silk India Expo 2017 organised by Hastashilpi (Artists and Weavers’ Welfare Association) at Sesha Sai Kalyana Vedika, attracted good number of visitors on Friday. The week-long event was inaugurated on Thursday.
Coinciding with Sankranthi festival, weavers and artisans from 21 States have set up 70 stalls showcasing the lustre of various silk and handloom weaves.
The pure silk varieties include hand block print saris, suits and bed covers, designer dress material, laces, kurtis, hand-woven matka, Assam’s Muga silk, Apoorva silk, Baluchari, Dhaka masli, gicha and boutique saris.
Other options are Kantha, zardosi, Lucknow chikan work, Bhagalpur suits, Banarasi fabric, reshmi, printed silk saris, Chanderi, Maheswari, Kota, mulberry silk, chiffon and Tussar silk.
City model Veena inaugurated the event and went around the stalls. She said it was a good opportunity for people of the city as they had a one-stop destination to pick their favourite fabric in this festival season.
“The objective of this event is to bring the manufacturer and the buyer face-to-face doing away with the role of the middlemen,” said the event organiser Manju.
