The national highways and other roads leading to Hyderabad saw a huge rush on Monday as people started heading to their workplaces from their native villages after Sankranti.
Cars in large numbers ended up in serpentine queues at the toll gates near Kesara in Kanchikacherla, Gattubhimavaram in Vatsavai, Pottipadu in Gannavaram mandals in the district on the Vijayawada-Hyderabad highway.
Also, toll gates on the Kolkata-Chennai highway in West Godavari district saw similar rush.
At the Kesara tollgate, traffic extending to nearly 2 km was witnessed throughout the day causing delay in journeys. The rush also affected bus services between Hyderabad and Vijayawada.
The bus station and railway station also saw a huge rush of passengers.
