Hired bus workers demonstrate at the Collectorate in Kurnool on Monday.

APSRTC-hired bus workers staged a demonstration before the Collectorate here on Monday demanding issue of identity cards, a minimum wage of ₹15,000, PF and ESI facilities and ‘end to harassment’.

APSRTC Hire Bus Workers’ Union president S. Chand Basha, general secretary S. Srinivasulu and treasurer M. Sekhar said the RTC Kurnool region has 400 hired bus workers but only some of them were issued identity cards in Banaganapalle and Kurnool II bus depots. They alleged that the Nandyal depot manager did not issue ID cards.

The RTC officials were harassing them on flimsy grounds and removing hired bus workers citing even a 15-minute delay in reaching Kurnool from Nandyal, they said.

While passengers forced them to drive faster, cases were being booked on those reaching the destination even 15 minutes before the scheduled time, they said.
