February 12, 2017 01:03 am | Updated 01:03 am IST - ONGOLE:

It was a new lease of life for a man with half-severed neck with M. Venkaiah of the General Surgery department at the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) performing a life-saving surgery.

Dr. Venkaiah told the media, along with the patient who has completely recovered on Saturday, that the procedure was done immediately on S. Nagesh Kumar, who was rushed to the hospital in an unconscious state by his family members on January 31.

The patient was profusely bleeding as the veins and arteries of the neck got cut while he was operating a wood cutting machine. The patient came in the golden hour period. So the surgery procedure could be done in the absence of anaesthesiologist after explaining the risk involved to the family members as the survival chance was only 10%, the doctor said.
