Police ban dances in hotels during New Year festivities

Impose traffic restrictions to prevent road accidents

VIJAYAWADA: City Police Commissioner D. Gautam Sawang has said that dances and unauthorised activities have been banned in hotels and restaurants during New Year celebrations, and warned that severe action would be taken against those violating the orders.

Conveying New Year greetings to the public, Mr. Sawang appealed to the citizens to celebrate the year end and welcome the new year with joy and happiness without causing inconvenience to the people.

The Commissioner said the establishments which planned to organise events in connection with the New Year celebrations have been requested to obtain permission from the police, and liquor shops should not do business beyond the stipulated time.

People have been are requested not to burst crackers on road, resort to eve-teasing, indulge in rash and drunk driving, and should not participate in drag racings. Parents are requested to keep a watch on the activities of their wards.

294 imprisoned

The Police Commissioner said 3,063 persons were booked on drunk and drive charges, of which 294 drivers were jailed and the court imposed fine on 2,769 persons.

The police will intensify patrolling and organise special drives at different points in the city on Saturday night to prevent drunken driving and road accidents. The police will book those who create nuisance at public places during the New Year celebrations, Mr. Sawang warned in a statement.

Traffic restrictions

Traffic police will impose restrictions on M.G Road (Bandar Road) from 6 p.m. on Saturday to 2 a.m, and vehicular traffic has been banned on the flyover near Police Control Room. Public may call ‘Dial 100’ in any emergency, the Commissioner said.
