An otherwise sleepy and far-flung village located on the Gudur-Venkatagiri road is now on its way to get the most modern and urban infrastructure on the lines of any flourishing town with its 13,000 residents also volunteering to embrace the change with enthusiasm.
Designated as a model village by the State government, Chennuru is going to witness a town-like transformation, thanks to the now-approved proposals for converting all its roads into cement concrete (CC), 100 per cent housing, total digital payment facilities, fiber grid connectivity and a smart phone for a house. The ambitious ‘one smart phone per family’ scheme has been taken up with the government offering Rs. 1,000 subsidy on phone, while the remaining amount to be paid by the villagers concerned in instalments.
This scheme found a special mention in the speech of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu during his visit to the village for Janmabhoomi -- Maa Vooru on Tuesday when he instructed the officials to urgently take up the ‘smart phone’ scheme and complete it in the next 10 days.
This is considered vital for enabling the residents to proactively carry out cashless transactions at local shops and elsewhere.
There are many small and medium shops in the large village and they are all asked to enroll for the Rs. 1,000 subsidy offer on the biometric device. This may be linked with their cell phones, enabling them to take thumb impression of the customer and accept payments based on the Aadhaar. Apart from this, the Chennuru villagers are also promised with the services of triple play offering the high speed internet, TV and telephone on just one broadband connection through fiber connectivity in two months time. Under the model village concept, Chennuru residents will also get a new housing project to construct 1+2 small apartment complexes in which all the eligible persons having no house now will be accommodated.
