: The Chowtapalle village of Kadapa district in Andhra Pradesh was inundated on Saturday when the backwaters of the Gandikota reservoir entered about 100 houses.

Water was released from the Gandikota reservoir into the Pydipalem reservoir in Simhadripuram after Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu commissioned the Gandikota lift irrigation scheme on January 11.

But water release was stopped two days ago due to a break in the pipeline.

As the Gandikota reservoir continued to get inflows even after the discharge was stopped, the water level rose constantly and breached a mud bund put up around the village by the people.

Water entered about 100 houses in the early hours of Saturday.

Household goods, grains and clothes were destroyed in the flooding.
