VIJAYAWADA: The Satyanarayanapuram police arrested five persons, including a woman, who allegedly murdered a history sheeter, Shaik Nagul Meera (41), in the city on January 1.

The accused, Konda Lakshmi, S. Raghuram, K. Anil, G. Shiva Kumar and M. Jayaram, allegedly killed Nagul Meera with a sickle, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP-Law and Order) G. Pala Raju, at a press conference held here on Saturday.

The victim, who was deserted by his wife, was in a live-in relationship with a woman. As the accused Anil was moving closely with the woman, the history sheeter developed grudge against the woman and attacked her with a knife on December 31 night, causing injuries.

The accused, who observed the women with bleeding injuries, shifted her to a hospital. They chased Nagul Meera and allegedly attacked him with a sickle killing him on the spot near a cinema theatre at Gandhi Nagar.

Two more accused — Ravi and Chandrahas — are absconding. Nagul Meera was a history sheeter under the Suryaraopet police station limits and was facing nine cases, said Assistant Commissioner of Police K. Sravani.

Satyanarayanapuram Circle Inspector M. Satyanarayana said the victim had serious arguments with the woman on her friendship with Anil several times and reportedly warned her against it. As she continued to move with Anil, Nagul Meera attacked her. A hunt had been launched to arrest the remaining accused, the police officer said.
