VIJAYAWADA: The Telangana State Power Utilities Relieved Employees’ Joint Action Committee began relay hunger strikes at Vidyut Soudha in Hyderabad on Wednesday seeking their immediate absorption into Genco, Transco, and Discoms of Andhra Pradesh.
JAC convener N. Giridhar stated in a press release that 1,170 employees of TS power utilities, who are native of A.P., were relieved of their duties after bifurcation.
“The TS utilities have been paying salaries, but have not assigned any work. They are not even allowing the employees to enter the offices concerned,” he said, adding that their plight for the last 20 months was pathetic as the two governments did not resolve the issue. Mr. Giridhar argued that the employees should be inducted into the power utilities of A.P. in view of their nativity status.
“It is unfortunate that the power utilities of TS and A.P. disowned us, pending resolution of the dispute by the governments,” Mr. Giridhar observed.
JAC chairman M. Surendra and co-chairman K. Babu Rao were among those present at the launch of the hunger strike.
