GUNTUR: Dalit organisations here on Tuesday staged a protest march demanding that action be taken against the accused, including Vice- Chancellor of Hyderabad Central University P. Appa Rao, in the case pertaining to suicide of Rohith Vemula, a research scholar, a year ago.

The first death anniversary of Rohith was observed as ‘black day’ by the organisations, which included Dalit Bahujan Front and Kula Vivaksha Porata Samithi (KVPS).

The activists marched on the main road leading to the Ambedkar Statue Centre holding placards demanding that the accused be punished.

“We demand action against BJP leaders responsible for driving Rohith to suicide. The Telangana and AP governments have been trying to dodge investigation even after Guntur Collector submitted a report confirming the caste of Rohith (SC Hindu Mala). The BJP government is bent on protecting its Ministers (Smriti Irani and Bandaru Dattatreya) and its Vice- Chancellor,” said Dalit Bahujan Front convener Melam Bhagya Rao.
