TIRUPATI: Shripad Yasso Naik, Union Minister of State (Independent charge) for AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy) has said Ayurveda will be taken to the rural areas and popularised among the public.

The Minister was addressing the national seminar on health needs in rural areas and the role of Ayurveda in primary medicare, organised by the Sri Venkateswara Ayurvedic College, in association with the Andhra Pradesh Viswa Ayurveda Parishat here on Sunday.

Indicating that a huge budget outlay of ₹1,500 crore had been allocated to the AYUSH department, the Minister announced that enough emphasis would be laid on the alternative medicine streams this year. The traditional streams of medicine would be taken far and beyond the existing lot of beneficiaries to include dwellers of the countryside, who have, by far, been left behind.

On the occasion, the Minister launched the event souvenir and also released a medicinal product into the market.

TTD trust board Chairman Chadalawada Krishnamurthy, board member G. Bhanuprakash Reddy and SV Ayurvedic College principal Sankar Babu were present. More than 500 researchers and Ayurvedic practitioners from across the country are taking part in the two-day event. The organisers said that the resolutions passed at the meet would be taken up for discussion by the central cabinet for implementation at the national-level.
