80 tmcft water sought for HNSS

March 01, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 06:00 am IST - ANANTAPUR:

An all-party meeting held here on Saturday demanded that 80 tmc feet inter basin transfer of water be allotted to Ananta Venkata Reddy Handri Neeva Sujala Sravanthi (HNSS) project through Pattiseema lift irrigation project .

Speaking at the meeting held at Anantapur Press Club, the leaders of the Left Parties and the YSR Congress and the Congress wanted the government to issue G.O. immediately, allotting 80 tmc feet of water from the Krishna basin to HNSS project.

“The government has agreed for a higher price to complete Pattiseema project to transfer water from the Godavari basin to that of Krishna. The water thus saved in the Krishna basin should be allotted to HNSS project, which is a lifeline for three districts of Rayalaseema,” said former MP and YSRC leader Ananta Venkatrami Reddy.

Apart from this issue, the meeting also resolved to place two demands with the government—to ensure maintenance of 852 tmc feet of water at Srisailam reservoir to enable pumping to HNSS and to allot funds to HNSS project for its completion within a year, while extending the canal network to Kuppam constituency.

A massive protest in front of the district Collectorate was planned on March 12 to press for these demands.
