At least 80 persons were taken ill after consuming contaminated food at a function in East Godavari district, police said on Friday.

The incident took place when one Nallaiah had organised a family function at his place on Thursday.

Over 100 persons attended the function and fell sick after consuming the contaminated eatables, they said adding some vomited the food and also fell unconscious, they said.

The Primary Health Centres (PHC) of Kotananduru and Rothupudi immediately arrived at the function place and examined the victims, they said.

“All are out of danger and their condition is stable,” the doctors said adding “we are examining the remaining persons who ate the contaminated food.”

Further investigations are on, police added.
