8 held for distribution of heroin in Rajampeta

December 18, 2017 01:26 am | Updated 01:26 am IST - ANANTAPUR

The Rajampeta police, it is reliably learnt, on Sunday arrested eight persons for possession and distribution of heroin, bringing to the fore what could be a deeper malaise in society.

While the police refused to divulge details, not even confirming the arrests, it is reliably known from highly-placed sources that the whole issue would be brought before the press sometime on Monday. It is believed that two persons had escaped during the raids conducted in a few areas of Rajampeta town which has a lot of families whose members have primarily relocated to the Gulf countries. It is learnt that investigation is on whether heroin is only being sold in Rajampeta or being sent abroad using the Gulf settlers as conduits.
