Six persons were injured when two groups clashed with each other during the Ganesh idol immersion event at Gangavaripalle village of Kurabalakota mandal in Madanapalle Division on Saturday midnight. As a backlash to the event, the Mudivedu police registered a criminal case under the SC/ST Atrocities Act on the idol immersion organizers on Sunday.

The Mudivedu police said that as part of the idol immersion, the procession was going towards the nearby tank, allowing the households to offer harathi to the idol. Some families belonging to the SC community performed the ritual, but were allegedly insulted by the organizers.

This led to clash between the two groups. The injured were rushed to the area hospital. The police visited the village and booked cases against the accused. The police said that following a tense atmosphere in the village, a police picket would be posted if necessary.
