The Women Development and Child Welfare (WD&CW) Department is conducting a mega training programme for adolescent girls on personality development, health, education, literacy and other topics.

As many as 50,000 girls will be trained in a phased manner under the ‘Kishori Vikasam’ programme in Krishna district. Collector B. Lakshmikanthan inaugurated the training for Trainers of Trainees (ToTs) in Vijayawada recently.

Resource persons will educate the ToTs on different topics, who will enlighten the girls in different government schools, hostels and private institutions. The theme is awareness creation among the girl students on various social, health and skill development issues, said WD&CW Krishna District Project Director (PD) K. Krishna Kumari.

She told The Hindu that about 1,000 ToTs from various degree, PG, engineering and other professional colleges were being trained, who would visit the educational institutions and educate the adolescent girls.

“The ToTs are being taught on the social media advantages and disadvantages, education, child marriages, trafficking, sexual harassment, health, personality development, skill development, nutrition, hygiene and other topics. Officers of various government departments, NGOs, academicians, police and experts in the related fields will train the students,” said Ms. Krishna Kumari.

The trained students will cover the Social Welfare Hostels, BC, SC and ST Hostels, Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayams, Gurukula Pathasalas, Government and Zilla Parishad Schools and private educational institutions.

Expert team

“A six-member team will visit the hostel and train the girls for four days. The ToTs will alert the students on anti-social elements, eve-teasers and on social media sites,” the PD said.

The police officers and advocates will explain the girls with some case studies the hardship faced by girls, who were married at a young age, and how some anti-social elements are trapping young girls on social media sites and over phones, the need to maintain good health, nutritional diet and personality development, the officer said.

“Training programmes will be organised in schools and colleges in Gudivada, Machilipatnam and Nuzvid. Training for ToTs will be completed by this month end. They will organise a series of awareness programmes in the next few months,” Ms. Krishna Kumari said.
